Christopher Lloyd

Great Scott! Today actor Christopher Lloyd turns 80! Best known for portraying Doc Brown in the popular Back to the Future film trilogy, Lloyd has been entertaining audiences on the stage and screen for nearly six decades.

Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938 in Stamford, Connecticut to Samuel R. Lloyd and Ruth Laphram. His maternal grandfather, Lewis Lepham, was one of the founders of Texaco Oil Company. Lloyd is also a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger, John Howland, who is his 8th great grandfather.

At the age of 14, Lloyd began working as an apprentice at a local theater. By 19, he was taking acting classes in New York and eventually made his Broadway debut in 1961. After working on more than 200 stage productions, Lloyd landed his first big screen role as a psychiatric patient in the Academy Award winning film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The actor also found success on television on the hit TV series, Taxi. He would win 2 Emmy awards for his portrayal of hippie cabbie “Reverend” Jim Ignatowski.

Although he has continued to work steadily in television and film, Lloyd will perhaps always be remembered for his iconic role as Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future series.
