Profile of the Day: Francis Scott Key
On March 3, 1931 the U.S. Congress passed a resolution to officially name “The Star Spangled Banner” as the national anthem of the United States. In 1814, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the lyrics to the anthem as poem after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British forces during the War of 1812.
