On January 19, 1937 Howard Hughes set a new transcontinental record by flying non-stop from Los Angeles to New York City in 7 hours, 28 minutes and 25 seconds. Hughes was an American aviator, engineer, industrialist, film producer/director and one of the wealthiest people in the world. Did you know Leonardo DiCaprio earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Hughes in Martin Scorsese‘s biopic, The Aviator?
