Profile of the Day: Oscar Pistorius
South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius made history this year by becoming the first amputee track athlete to compete at the Olympics. Pistorius was born without fibulas and had both legs amputated just below the knee when he was 11 months old. Known as the “Blade Runner,” Pistorius made it to the 400m semifinals, but failed to land a place in the finals. Today, Pistorius will run once more as part of South Africa’s 4x400m relay team.
