Justin Balthrop is the CTO of Geni. He joined the Geni team in 2007 after failing miserably trying to make it as a musician in LA. An Albuquerque native and alumni of the Adaptive Computation group at the University of New Mexico, he now calls Southern California his home. He stays busy designing and building Geni’s next-generation graph data store, walking on his fancy, new treadmill desk, working on several open-source projects, and chasing his one-year-old around the house. Mostly, he’s learning how to multitask.
Mike Stangel is the VP of Engineering at Geni. He has been slinging code for nearly 20 years. Hailing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he had the pleasure of developing the web infrastructure for a large corporation as well as writing mobile data applications for the public safety sector, before joining Geni in 2006. Despite being a genealogy newbie, Mike was thrilled to find a connection to the Big Tree in 2009.
Amanda, a Los Angeles native, is a recent graduate from UC Berkeley where she studied Archaeology. She has been a part of the Community team on Geni since August 2010. She and her family have been using Geni since 2007, and they are in the World Family Tree.
anthonyAnthony Grimes is an engineering intern working with Justin and Lance on Geni’s graph service. Hailing from an insanely small town in Alabama called Eldridge, he has been writing code since he was 12 years old. A functional programmer from the very beginning, Anthony started programming with Haskell before moving on to Clojure as his language of choice. He is an active member of the Clojure community and has several open source projects. He is also the author of the upcoming book on Clojure named Meet Clojure.
Brian Gonzalez is a front end web developer who works on updating the family tree UI/UX and basic interactions with the Geni site. When not hacking, Brian can be found following his Lakers and Dodgers, playing basketball, strumming on a guitar, or spending time with his wife. Brian received his BSc degree in Elec. Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and his MSc in Computer Science from the University of Agder in Norway.
Charles is the Customer Service Manager, a recent addition to the Geni Family. He is a native New Yorker and a long suffering Knick Fan stuck in Laker Land but at least he has the Yankees. His focus is on being a positive addition to the customer service team and helping to make the Geni experience better.
Greg Drewganis, a recent LA transplant from Chicago, is a new addition to the Marketing team at Geni, where his focus is to help develop new features for users interested in becoming Geni Pro members. Greg is looking forward to helping build Geni’s member base to make it the most comprehensive and useful genealogy resource on the web.
LANCELance Bradley is a software engineer, working on Geni’s search and graph services. When AFK, he can usually be found bodyboarding or at the local dive bar — depending on the swell. Lance was born and raised in the south, with layovers in Lawrence, KS and San Francisco on his way to Los Angeles.
Michelle Kempner is a User Experience designer. A Philadelphia native, Michelle moved to Los Angeles from New York in 2010. Michelle works with the product team to come up with new features and improvements for the site. When she’s not at work, you can find Michelle cheering for the Eagles or running long distances.
Monica is one of the Customer Service Agents at Geni. Born and raised in Sunny California, Monica joined the Geni team in April 2011. She is very excited to join the world of genealogy, and hopes to help Geni user’s have the best experience on the site.
Natalie MacLees is a Front-End Developer and Designer. She was born and raised in Pennsylvania and joined Geni in 2010 from her previous position at Sony Network Entertainment. Today, Natalie works with JavaScript and CSS to make sure the Geni interface runs smoothly and is as easy-to-use as possible.
