Forgive my ignorance, however, where is the source of the information that Simon Wolf Oppenheimer is the son of Frumet Bailin? It would be nice if sources could be added to these family trees. Geni shows her as having over 5,000 descendants. It would be helpful if these descendants would know the source of the knowledge of their ancestors.
I see that for Simon Wolf Oppenheimer, a family tree from a book by Ernst Wolf (1924) was sourced. Alisa Sharon also included a link to the book.

Agree, - an empty profile like that should not be classified as a Master Profile either.

http://www.loebtree.com/oppm.html#ljjo is a well known family tree that includes this marriage. I had no knowledge of this profile, but I have consulted this tree several times.

I see that someone has already put a hyperlink to it and to another well known tree in the About Me since you asked this question.

That "someone" could be Malka.

Thanks Hatte and Malka for sourcing my 11th great grandmother.

And all our views have put that profile into the top 100.

While on the subject of the Oppenheimers – can I hijack this discussion to ask for help finding

HARRY OPPENHEIMER (1908-2000). South African Mining Magnate & Businessman - De Beers, Anglo American

He deserves to be on our Famous SAs project
http://www.geni.com/projects/Famous-South-Africans
but eludes me. Surely he’s got to be on the tree already?

Malka Mysels; Ofir Friedman; Azriel Horowitz; Hatte Anne Blejer; David Prins; http://www.geni.com/people/Shmuel-Aharon-Kam-Kahn-%D7%A9%D7%9E%D7%9...; Erica Isabel Howton, Volunteer Curator
- Can any of you help locate him?

Gee - I'm having no luck getting these links to stick: I think it's Shmuel's 500 character link doing it :-):

I don't see any of his ancestors - Sir Ernest , his father, or Edward, his grandfather. German family. Daniel Loeb or Randy Schoenberg or Peter Rohel would be possible sources. I'll look more later today.

Thanks Hatte

Sharon - I added Johnny Clegg to Famous South Africans and began working on his family tree. I could use some help since I don't have access to South African or Rhodesian records.

Specifically, Dan Pienaar, his step father (South African) and his grandparents - Braslovsky - Lithuanian Jews in Rhodesia living in Gwelu (sic?). See his mother's birth place.

Wow! Thanks Hatte. I'm off to bed right now. (What a way to spend a Saturday night :-) but will get onto it first thing tomorrow. Thanks again.

Sharon

I also tried to find this branch previously on Geni and failed.

Loebtree simply lists them as "other Oppenheimers" http://www.loebtree.com/other.html, as does http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oppenheimer_(Familie)

I would suggest starting a standalone set of profiles for this branch (easily done I believe by a Pro or curator). Then at some point we will connect it to the big tree.

If you follow that route, please put a link in this discussion thread to the standalone branch when created, so others can help fill it out, and connect it in to the big tree when possible.

Secondary "sources" would include the above German Wiki page

Also:

(Harry's father)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Oppenheimer
(Ernest's brother)

(Bernard's wife's family)

Thank you Hatte for taking the lead!

David, thank you for your excellent information. I did not know about Bernard and the German Wikipedia article is a good source! Please have at the profiles. They are public. All the information is readily available.

I'm off to read and sleep. Yom Kippur is exhausting :) Even though I actually only fasted part of the day this year.

Well done Hatte! Let's see what else we can find between us!

For example, there's a picture of Sir Ernest at http://www.brenthurst.org.za/sirernestprofile.cfm

I will add photos later if someone else doesn't get there first.

You guys are so great!! Yaay Private User and Hatte Anne Blejer!
I've been a bit nervous to add stuff into this tree, as it could be stepping on the toes of the Jewish community. But this man is such a huge icon in SA culture that it's been a thorn in my side to have him missing.
Thank you

Sharon
I don't think you are stepping on toes - I will send you (and Hatte) a private message.

10/9/2011 at 8:23 AM

I saw Louis, Nicolas, and Mary and Nicholas' son. I will add them or anyone else is welcome to. I won't get to them until late tonight or tomorrow.

10/10/2011 at 7:22 AM

I love the idea of an Oppenheimer project as suggested in the message. Shall I set it up and call it The Oppenheimer's in SA, or would you guys like it to be broader?
