I am trying to find out the origins of the surnames Kantach, and Mellentin (Mellentine). From most of the web sites I've seen , It seems Kantack is probably Polish as most of the sites I've been to looking for "Kantach" are in Polish. (my great grandmother Anna Kantach did have a child in Danzig (Gdansk).) I'd also like to know if Mellentin/Mellentine OR Kantach was originally Jewish. My grandmother Angelica Mellentine came over from Germany abt 1883. Her mother was Anna Kantach. I can't find out anything about Anna Kantach.. My birth mother (I was adopted) told me our family added the "e" on Mellentin when we immigrated to the USA making it Mellentine. In Europe it was Mellentin. (I know there ARE Jewish Mellintines in Romania ) I've also seen "Kantach" spelled at least different ways..Kantach (the one used most often) Kantish, and Cantuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
