How do you delete a person from a tree permanently?

I am having difficulty deleting an individual on my tree. This is not a matter of moving them to another place on the tree. I want to delete them entirely. Does anyone know how to do this? I've already deleted their name and information and this was not enough. I've looked everywhere for something that says "Remove this person".
