is Lindley Murray Hoag, b 1808, the first Hoag to have the name Lindley? Was he named after Lindley Murray, a Quaker lawyer from New York who became famous as the author of textbooks starting in 1795? (LM became the best selling author in the first half of the 19th century, particularly due to the success of his textbook English Grammar). see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindley_Murray
Or is there another source for the name Lindley?

The mother of the Lindley Murrray that you mention had the maiden name Mary Lindley. See her interesting biography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Lindley_Murray

Here is a great history for Lindley Murray Hoag, my great great great grandfather (1808-1880) I believe he was the first Lindley in his family.

I was wondering if I could get some information from you about Mary Elvene Hoag b. 1905, my grandfather's sister.
