Fantastic Elyse! Thanks.

Cecil Dana - great work on STERNSCHUS.

I start work full time next week so I won't be able to work as much on the project. I hope we can recruit more hands so none of us has to do as much.

Daniel Levy - I'll take a look and make sure it's correct. I know I mistyped Wolff once for sure and caught myself. Thank you.

Private User I haven't see those names yet myself.

Private User - Thanks for the input. Good points!

Private User - I sometimes put one in birth and one in last for these types of variations. Remember what Randy said about Hot Matches. Erica - remember that hot matches are important for us because we don't want to waste time on duplicates. Does AKA match for hot match?

11/1/2012 at 5:46 PM

Elyse Vahjen (Deutscher) your work on the Krakow families is amazing. I don't know how you and Shiri entered so many, so correctly. Also, last night was depressing again as the families I was entering and/or adding perished nearly en masse "died after 1940".

I only add to the Holocaust project when Hirschberg gives a death location, but I plan to go back and search on "died after 1940" and add whole families to the generic project someday. Or go look for them on Yad vaShem.

That might be something that someone who wants to help but doesn't want to enter profiles might do Pam.

You need to double & triple check with G team on tree matching - the algorithm is a little funky lately. But I promise you multiple last names in database name fields won't help.

And an important point - AKA is NOT a "standard" db field. It is a searchable text string, comma separated. So it is best to repeat a full name if possible with the spelling variations, plus displays better. But that's a refinement.

BRACIEJOWKA - Moshe Braciejowka tree top ancestor.

I have added only a handful of the first generation since they married LUST.

11/1/2012 at 6:56 PM

WACHTEL -Izaak Wolf Wachtel one of the tree top ancestors. I entered a few of the top profiles, again due to being related to LUST, the family I am going to complete in five minutes.

11/1/2012 at 7:06 PM

LUST - Wolff Oyza Lust family COMPLETED

11/1/2012 at 7:40 PM

I added a link to the Belzec project. 120,000 Jews from the Krakow district were transported to Belzec. One thing we should do months from now when we finish the project is to search "Belzec" and "Krakow" and download the testimonies for the Krakow families who were murdered. Also, some of the families lived in other towns, so we can search by surname with "Belzec".

Cecil Dana - great work on STERNSCHUS

Private User - thank you for your input re the algorithms. Its reassuring, for me anyway, to have your technical expertise. No multiple names in last name field!

Hatte Blejer - you have been firing ahead. Good work! I have also only been adding to Holocaust projects when Hirschberg has a death date. Downloading testimonies is a great idea... as you say, in the months ahead.

Elyse Vahjen (Deutscher) - thanks for completing Schamroth. I had thought that ALFUS was complete, only to add to the project. Mistake! I have two pages still to go and then will find a family that is complete, and can add to project only, just for variation.

We will have to rethink our decision of multiple names in the last name field. Erica has a good point.

Shabbat shalom to you all from sunny Sydney.

11/1/2012 at 9:48 PM

Shabbat Shalom Private User.

I finished all the LUST families -- Joszue Lust had a small family, many children died in infancy.

Thank you Hatte Blejer. Have a look at the MANDELBERG family. Tree top done previously, however no yellow arrows to add children. Some profiles private, the manager is Private User. Note difference in spelling. Last online Sept 2011.

ALFUS - Jakob Alfus
Finally completed! All on tree and on project. It was so depressing and sad to see families losing their little ones.

11/2/2012 at 6:13 AM

Pam - Why not take a cue from They will pull up surnames spelled the most popular way first and then they add the variations.Could Geni do that? I have found numerous family this way on Ancestry, from mis-spellings to slight variations.
Well, back to Schamroth(Shamroth,Shamrock) Can you believe it???

Schamroth Family Completed!

11/3/2012 at 1:20 PM

Oh, anything else you would like me to do? Please, just ask. I am in the swing of posting again through I do sometimes get side tracked, especially if they came to the United States. I end up looking for them in and have been able to add to the families the next generation.

11/3/2012 at 1:28 PM

Fantastic work Elyse. Here are families that are partially entered or partially added to the project, in case any of them appeal to you.

Ester (Ernestyna) Rosenfeld Here's a link into the portion of the tree that I created and added to the project so you can avoid re-adding profiles that I added.

Elyse thank you so much for helping with Schamroth.

There are many trees with portions half done. You will also find them on the main page. Or, maybe you want to run though the list and see if you have already worked on families that just need posting to the project.

I'm hoping Geni will get to the point where they have many more ways to help with matching! But we're David compared to Goliath. We just have to work smarter ....

Good idea to search in Google as follows: "Hirschberg Krakow Barber". I believe I found your Barber family under the Falek surname.

See my answer which posted before you question for some crazy reason.

Private User
11/4/2012 at 1:31 AM

One of the reasons I asked a while back who exactly belongs in this project and why are we doing it in the first place is because I am currently working on a family BARBER who is originally from Oswiecim, I believe, but some members settled in closeby Krakow, and lived, worked and procriated there.
Dan Hirschberg doesn't mention any Barbers.
I obtained many of the names from another Geni researcher who is part of the extended family, anf if the curators who are active on this project think this family belongs here, I will defer to that gentleman the honor of adding them to this project.

"We have to work smarter...."

Do we have to be smart to achieve this ? :-):-)

Private User

Hatte Blejer
Thank you Hatte.
It definitely could be the same family from the dates, names and place...
but the connection is probably a bit earlier.
The FEIWEL BARBER b.1822 and married to KAILA JACHETTA FALEK could be a brother of the head of the tree I have by the name SHLOMO BARBER, m. CHAYA BARBER and father of AVROHOM, SHIMON , YITZCHOK, BERYL and RIVKA LANGER (BARBER).
We can not work with probability, we must have certainty, or at least 85%
of it.
Do you have a suggestion where we can find possible answers?
This would open a big new chapter in our tree.
Thank you so much.
