The detailed biography here of Lindo doesn't mention one of his major commercial activities - as a partner in one of the largest firms buying and selling slaves in Jamaica.
See http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=ceC5T4_5e-wC&pg=PA117&lp...
Like other plantation-owners, he was also - of course - a slave-owner and his slaves were included in his will.
Alexandre Lindo was one of my great-great-great-grandfathers - via his youngest (?) daughter Elizabeth Lindo. My maternal grandmother's name was Myra Lindo Levien - now I finally know where the 'Lindo' came from.
