Thankyou for this - he is a several times gt uncle of mine and I believe that he is the great great granfather of the author Ian Fleming. I am currently trying to find out about Captain John Hindmarsh b. about 1801, son of Ralph and Sarah Hindmarsh of Newcastle. He was the chief mate on the brig "Governor Phillip" ferrying convicts to Norfolk Island and Tasmania. I think he married Caroline Jones in Bengal ,16/12 1864, when he was Harbour master in Calcutta and is reputed to have been taken by a crocodile when his boat overturned. I can find no record of this so far but Caroline Jones widow of Captain Hindmarsh remarried ? Templeman about 1840 in India.
