I'm carrying over a conversation from the last post and starting a new discussion here about the topic of making this project an umbrella site for Ukraine.

I talked with Randy Schoenberg and he pointed me to the Czech umbrella website:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Jewish-Communities-in-Bohemia-and-Mora...

He stated that if we wanted to go with the idea of making individual community websites--adminstrative districts included--that it would best to put them all on this website and not the main Jewish Genealogy Portal. After seeing how the Czech website is panning out, it makes sense that you wouldn't want so many links on the main portal page.

We could just use the Czech site as a template.

I agree it's a good template. I have two projects on Gubernias in former Lithuania (now split between Poland and Lithuania) -- Suwalki and Lomza.

Let's discuss the format. I would see an umbrella project as having Gubernias that were in the former Russian Empire but are now in current day Ukraine. The Gubernia name could link to a sub-project. I don't think we have to have the towns underneath the Gubernia, but it would be good for those who are brand new to Ukrainian genealogy.

I do have a project on Novopoltavka (in Kherson Gubernia) by the way.

Novograd Volinsky (Zhvil)

Shepativka
