When Did the Rosen's change their names from Resnick?

I was told that my Grandfather, Ben Rosen, Changed his name in his early 20's along wiht nearly all of his brothers from Resnick to Rosen. The reason I was told is that it was better to have the name Rosen for the for hat store as opposed to Resnick.

Is this true? What happened and what was the timing?

as far as I know, our family came from ODessa. Poland/Russia is the origin.
