Converting audio tapes to archivable form

Any of you young people know how to covert an audio cassette tape to a CD of something of similar permanance? I have a cassette with my Uncle John Mycek talking about his time in WW II where he appears to have been in the Battle of the Buldge and later in Czechoslovakia. I'd like to not lose it as the old cassette tapes seem to be failing me.

you can hook up a cassette player to a computer through the mic input using a 1/8" to 1/8" cable. I can also do it at a high quality possibly.
