Norma Christine Anderson, 83, widow of Lawrence Anderson,
passed away peacefully on August 11, 2003 in Rugby, ND,
surrounded by loving family Norma was the 7th and youngest
child of John Walker Admire and Havilah Nannie Howe Admire,
born on June 30, 1920 in Auburn, Nebraska. Norma grew up in
Council Grove, Kansas, where she graduated as class
salutatorian in 1938 and where she was involved in a
family-owned photography studio with her father and brother.
Norma met her husband Lawrence at a USO dance club near where
he was stationed as a soldier in 1944. They married a few
months later on December 2, 1944 and continued a lifelong love
for music, family and friends. Norma and Lawrence first moved
to Brinsmade, North Dakota in 1951, later residing in Leeds and
in Minnewaukan for many years where Norma served as county
clerk of court and later as clerk for the States Attorney
office. Norma’s compiled history of the Benson County
courthouse, written for the Minnewaukan Centennial is currently
still viewable through the county’s internet links.
Norma is survived by her four children, Larry Anderson of
Augusta, Wisconsin, Janis Lee of Quincy, Florida, Barb Vannett
of Rugby and Deb Bakken of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She is
also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one
brother, Milford Admire and a sister, Mildred Osborne, both of
Council Grove, Kansas, and by many lifelong friends in Kansas
and in North Dakota.
Among those preceding Norma in passing was her husband
Lawrence, three brothers, Walker, Ira and Buford Admire and a
sister, Ferne Burnett.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Nelson Funeral Home,
Leeds, ND. The memorial service will be held on Thursday,
August 14 at 2 p.m. at the North Prairie Free Lutheran Church
north of Leeds, ND.
The family requests that memorials be sent the American Cancer
Society for leukemia research.
