This tree follows the genealogy in The Clan of the Tomkyns. A different genealogy is in Families of Little Compton which makes Gilbert and Michael the sons of Benjamin Tompkins of Little Compton. No evidence is given. The genealogy of Clan is preferred here because it matches circumstantial evidence better and seems more plausible.
The Mayflower Society and John Alden Society follow the Little Compton genealogy and then add wrong information about his place of death by confusing Clinton Corners, Dutchess county with Clinton Oneida county. His death in Dutchess county is confirmed by the fact that he lived there, his deathbed baptism was performed there, he was buried there and his will was probated there.
