Arthur was likely a veteran of WWI & II.
Occasionally, his brother Ed (my grandfather) would visit. Our mother, the beloved Barbara O'Brien, says that hey'd both sit on the porch. They would spend all afternoon on the porch without saying much. Finally, One brother would say, "you need a haircut". The other would respond "yup". They both had a general comraderie with each other but they were not super close as they both did not have an easy childhood.

I saw Arthur listed in the census of 1910, 1920, n 1930. Each decade , he seems to have aged just 9 years! Maybe if I had remained living with my parents, I would eggarate my age down, too.
