I notice that it is possible to export a Gedcom file from Geni. Is it also possible to import a Gedcom file and if so, how?

To my knowledge the only way yo import a GEDCOM file is to open a new PRO profile. You can open a new PRO profile under trial, import it then merge it with your current tree then cancel your trial PRO profile

it was diabled because people were abusing it and uploading the same gedcom over and over using multiple accounts

The plans is to come with a better GEDCOM upload, either restricted to cut off outside family group or in some way detect when it hits the historical lines already well covered.

I am one of the people that uploaded a GEDCOM more than once. I uploaded my GEDCOM, and after a few mths of updating it (i wasn;t PRO and non-pros couldn't merge) I would cancel the account and upload a corrected copy. This is the way it works on other sites. I had no Idea that once I canceled my account, the files that were mot merged were left in Limbo. Now, only PROs can (could ) upload a GEDCOM. There should be some kind of warning. Now that I'm PRO I understand how GENI does things, but anyone else coming in would have no Idea until it was to late.

We need a GEDCOM upload Project, get some IT and math minds on the problem.

I started a trial pro account, last week and I am not allowed to upload my GEDCOM file. I like the looks of GENI but I shall have to cancel my trial account by end of this week and look for another geneaology site. SHAME.

Does anyone know when this will be back?

Just today I saw Mike, of Geni, comment that they ARE working on it, but "It could be another month or more. "
