Titanic Project

Are you guys really going to "tag" 1,517 people in geni? I'm impressed.

lol! If I live long enough. I didn't think I would find that many in the tree, so far about 75% are here, I wasn't expecting that. Now I'm committed.

The main problem for the project is that even if you find the profiles they usually are private profiles because they are too recent in time and close related to Geni users and cannot be added to the project, like the profile of Ole mentioned above.

You have to kindly ask the project managers to make the profiles public before they can be added to this project.

Bjørn, you are a smarter man than I, it's something I hadn't considered when I started the project. The great news though, is that everyone is being terrific and making the profiles public.

Hey all. On April 15th, it will be 100 years ago since the Titanic sank. I suspect there will be a lot of media attention around this. How about working further on this project with a team, and trying to get some media attention for it as well? What if we all have someone, somewhere related to a survivor or a casualty on the Titanic?
What's the status on the project?

Great Jenny, as you can see I have made a start already, we need loads of profiles added :)

And you have already 67 profiles in a day? I'm impressed! :-)

But serious how do we aproach it? Did you (and others) began at the top and so on? Or was it at random?
I dont want to do things over that others already did.
So, how do we structure it and we need more "helping hands".
Ask Ann, Wouter, Jean-Francois to join might be an idea.

Mmmm why is tagging not working for me?

No.....I got 1 done 66 were there already from when Ric started the project 2 years ago, I am going trough the profiles that are there already now and see if they connect up somewhere. Just single profiles floating around does not look good, I am also putting sources and documents with the profiles so it is a slow process.
Maybe one person can start the 1 class passengers, another person the 2e Class and so on, see the passenger list.

It is easy to see who is done, there is a profile or there isn't, also when there is a profile make sure to connect them to the RMS Titanic project, once you see that is there you know that this profile is done

Anyway it would be great if we could create a beautiful polished and very detailed project with smashing profiles

Well, the question is not: why cannot I, I really want to do it.
Gives us more people who join this FB group and more users who help with the project. Mike, can you fix it for me? No for Geni... :-)

I am currently working on adding the first class passengers that already have profiles in the tree. I originally started at "A" but got distracted somewhere around "M". I am now continuing with "Z" and working my way backwards until I meet in the middle.

We need people to add the 2nd and 3rd class passengers as well as the crew.

Are we also wanting to try and clean up the individual profiles?

Captain Smith's birthday is January 27th, perhaps he could be made profile of the day.

Right Ric, now I know more :-). Help needed with adding the 2nd and 3rd class as well as the crew.
When more people step in and help , maybe a few amongst us are better and more driven in the cleaning part and others t search an add. When not, I'm thinking (because of time left) if we better not start with adding as many as profiles (not floating around) as we can and than later (after rememberance day) get further with it.
Just thinking with you. What a good project Ric you started, I've just discovered it 2 day ago. Hope more do and jump in to help. Annemarie and I hope by starting the FB group more people joining in to help.

Ric Dickinson maybe we can ask Private User to considder Captain Edward John Smith on the 27th, if the list for this weeks profiles has not been made up yet.

Yes we need a lot of people to add all the profiles, I am trying to promote it as much as possible everywhere.
About cleaning up the individual profiles, that is a difficult one, if we manage to get 1500+ profiles in this project they will all end up as driftwood floating around on Geni, but at the same time it would take too much time to connect them all to a proper tree, anyone know a solution for this ?
We might have to find some family-members for the profiles
The reason I only put 2 profiles up is because I managed to connect them eventually after hours and hours LOL

Sorry Jennie Schouten mist your suggestion about some people cleaning up or cleaning up afterwards.
I can check all the profiles and try to connect them somewhere while you guys put them up, how does that sound? But please try to supply as much information as possible to make finding relatives easier

Count me in. I need to finish a milestone on my 'Golden Fleece' project right now (almost there, on the first 500 knights between 1430-1704). Give me a week or so, and I'll join on the Titanic (this is a 'must-win' - there will be loads of media attention - and the Facebook group is a GREAT idea).
Bjorn was right in the other discussion thread, though... a lot of profiles will be private, so that's a challenge!

Great that you will be helping us too George, it is a massive project and you could be right about the media attention

To all:
I suggest that in case there is no photograph available for the passenger profile, we all use the same picture of the ship that Ric was using all the time ( its is stored with the project pictures, just right click on it and download to you PC to add it to profiles)

Sorry there are no pictures stored (not possible) just look at the other profiles and download from there?

By the time we finish this project it will be time to start on R.M.S. Lusitania that sank May 7th 1915 of the coast of Ireland during WW1

Just an idea about the profile pics.... could we have a differernt one to represent the different groups?

Only problem is we must check the first 72 profiles, I will give the ones that I have created a different pic (the crewmembers)

Most of the first class passengers might have a picture on the internet somewhere, so we need a picture for the 2e and 3rd class passengers
