The word PLEN is a Russian word meaning Prisoner of War or Military Prisoner.

It is believed that as a result of a war in the 18th century a large number of prisoners were taken and after the war were returned to Estonia from where they spread out. In my case my ancestors settled in Latvia in a town called Tukkums. Other people went to Poland, Lithuania, and eventually many emigrated to the USA, Ireland, and South Africa amongst other places. Not only Jews but also Christ6ians took on the name Plen which is also spelled as Plenn and Plehn.
