@origin of clifford aka cliff ford

@so notwithstanding the present name of the parish - a few houses spread every which way - and the definite fact that the real original Welsh name meant - according to how they pronounced it - either a church (on the cliff top?) or a strip of land beside the ford below...who exactly used the term (in English) 'cliff ford' first? We cannot expect that the Welsh, the Normans and local yokels respected the grammar of today.
