Charlie Hollander's advice on whether Trijntje Jans and Catherine Roelofse(n) are the same person. "Yes, I think they are the same. First of all, Trijntje is like our Kate or Cathy, a nickname for Catherine. Secondly, this is a period of patronyms just beginning to be last names as we know them, and someone recorded Trijntje by her mother's patronym, or possibly by her father's, which was almost the same, Jansen. I think Catherine Roelofse is likely to be the correct one; you could help by designating her as Catherine (Trijntje) Roelofse, sometimes called Jans. That's my best reading of the names."

@Trijntje (Roeloffs) Van Brugh

I see the merge has been completed. I think the name should be Catharina "Trijntje", rather than Trijntje "Catharina". The name in quotes is traditionally the nickname or shortened name.
