Have a look at London's Wembley stadium during a cup match: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b5/Wembley_panorama...
Just take the stands behind the opposite goal. that's about the 1664 population of New Netherland. In 1703, New York had an estimated 4,300 inhabitants - so that's about half of that.
It gives some perspective :-)
