Son of Elisha Hammer and Rachel Lewis

1914-12-04 Kellogg Enterprise - Aaron Hammer obituary:

Aaron Hammer, son of Elisha and Rachel Hammer, was born in Tennessee June 2, 1831. He is the last member of a large family, there being eleven sons and three daughters. At the age of 16, Aaron Hammer, with his parents, removed from Tennessee and settled in Richland Township, Keokuk county, in this state. From there the family came to Jasper county, settling near the place so well known as "Hammer's Grove." In 1860 the departed was united in marriage to Margaret Guthrie. To this union seven children were born, five of whom are living. F.E. Hammer of Dexter, Iowa; Ida M. Eaton of Kellogg; L.A. Hammer of Des Moines; W.A. Hammer and C.E. Hammer of Newton. Arthur P. died at the age of 26 and Luella at the age of 2 years. There are 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. For more than three score years a resident of Jasper county, it is evident that the deceased was widely and favorably known. He was a member of the Friends' church, and at the ripe old age of 83 years, 5 months and 23 days he was permitted to enter into glory on Wednesday morning, November 15, 1914. Funeral Services were held at Center Friends, west of Kellogg, on Friday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. A.C. Reilinger of the Kellogg Lutheran church, and the remains laid to rest in Center cemetery. - - - CARD OF THANKS - The family of the late Aaron Hammer desire us to express their grateful thanks to the neighbors and friends who ministered to them in various ways during illness and death of their beloved father.
