Abraham Lafazan petitioned to become a citizen in July 1918, and in December 1920, more than two years later, it was granted. In the meantime, his wife Chrisana had died and he was left to raise an infant daughter alone.

Abraham had to show he had resided in the US for more than five years, and that he had renounced his allegiance to Mehmed V, Emperor of the Ottomans.

Interesting are the two witnesses for his petition, one was his rabbi, David Davidson, and the other was his cousin, Abraham Eliezer, son of his aunt Kalomira Eliezer.

The naturalization documents also provide the evidence for his immigration, in 1912 on the Kaiser Franz Josef.

The naturalization document indicates that David arrived on Aug 10, 1920 on the Megali Hellas. It also confirms his birthdate. His witnesses were his brother Abraham Eliezer, and Stema Attas. He was not yet married at the time.
