Hi Dan! It was very nice talking to you. I just looked in some papers to find out something more about Abraham Fock. Read and enjoy!
Abraham Fock, born around 1694 in Danzig in a Mennonite family, came to Amsterdam in 1722. On November 1, 1722 he was baptised and on February 11, 1723 he became a Poorter (registered citizen) of Amsterdam. Abraham lived in the ‘Nieuwendijk’ since 1722, at the Leliegracht since 1732 and on the Keizersgracht since 1732. Abraham was married to Elisabeth Himpel (born 10-7-1703, burried 20-5-1723) on May 16, 1722 and Anna van Leuvening (born 1-12-1699, burried 15-7-1727) on May 19, 1724. He married in the ‘Nederlandsch Hervormde Kerk’ (Netherlands Reformed Church) in Amsterdam on November 13, 1731 to Catharina Fortgens. Catharina was born on October 20, 1710 and baptised on October 21, 1716. She died on May 8, 1783 and was burried in the ‘Westerkerk’ on May 13, 1783. Catharina was married with Gerrit Kuijken (1680-1749) and with Jacob de Clercq (25-7-1710/21-6-1777) on June 21, 1756. She is a daughter of Isaak Fortgens (1686-1758) and Margaretha van Loenen (1686-1756). Abraham Fock was burried in the ‘Westerkerk’ on December 11, 1732. His son Abraham Fock Junior (1732-1796) lived from 1759 until his death in ‘Huize Elsrijk’ {literal translation: house rich of alders (=tree)} along the Amstelveenseweg near Amsterdam. In 1790 he bought a piece of land (8,000 sq.meter) next to mansion. After he died the house (mansion, stable for 11 horses, gardener’s cottage and a coach house) and the land was sold for 7,600 Guilders to a guy who pulled everything down! Abraham Junior married in 1759 to Cornelia de Clercq and one year later Abraham was accepted as partner in the enterprise of his stepfather (Jacob de Clercq & Son).
I have to find out when Abraham Sr. and his parents came to Danzig. Enclosed a picture of the mansion. More info to come.
Warmest regards from a freezy Holland. Nico
