About Abraham Gershon Lappen
Immigrated to US (Chicago) in 1887. Married Rachel, a widow with 2 young children. Took on her deceased first husbands' junk/used clothing business. Two more children born. Naturalized in 1895. Abandoned family in 1897 (no record of giving wife divorce), and went off to South Africa to work in diamonds or gold. Sometime after 1940, attempted reconciliation with daughter Rose, in California. Rose, who along with her siblings, had been placed by their mother in the Chicago Home for Jewish Orphans because she could not take care of them while working full time after Abraham Lappen left, did not agree to meet with him. The date and place of his death are unknown.
