CENTENARIAN ADAM NICKOLAUS CALLED BY DEATH FRIDAY

Adam Nickolaus, age 100 years, seven months and 13 days, died at his home here Friday, September 19, following a ten-day illness.

Very Rev. Matthias Hoffmann officiated at the funeral services held at the St. Boniface church Monday morning at nine o'clock. Burial was held at the Sts. Peter and Paul parish cemetery at Elrosa.

John Fleischhacker was cross bearer and the pallbearers were: Joseph, John and Mike Gully, Anton Nickolaus and Richard and Merwyn Fleischhacker. All are grandsons.

The deceased was born in Danheim, Germany, February 6, 1852. He married Elizabeth Keller there in October 1875 and they came to America in 1883. They lived at St. Joseph for seven years and then moved to Elrosa. His wife died there April 11, 1929. Nine years ago he came to Melrose and with his daughter, Mary, made his home here. The daughter and a son, Peter, of Melrose survive with 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Mr. Nickolaus was a brick layer and mason by trade and continued this occupation most of his life, even during the time he was farming near Elrosa. He was a member of the Holy Name society.

Last February a large gathering of relatives honored Mr. Nickolaus on his 100th birthday anniversary at St. Patrick's hall. The centenarian was in good health at the occasion and the celebration was one of the highlights of his long life.
