About Adelbert de Moselle, dux

The fifth century historian Priscus of Panium wrote of a disputed inheritance within the Frankish royal family. He did not name names but the dead father was probably Chlodio while the two disputing sons were probably Merovech and Adelbert.

Bertelius goes into more detail about Adelbert, who he calls Albero, but Bertelius's sources are unknown and his work should be taken as legend rather than history.

Herbert discusses Priscus, Bertelius, and a few other historians's work about Adelbert.

Priscus of Panium, "From Roman to Merovingian Gaul," ed and trans by Alexander Callander Murray, Ontario, Canada, Broadview Press, 2000, p. 153.

Johannes Bertelius, "Historia Luxemburgensis," Cologne, Published in Latin in 1605, relevant portions translated into English in 1838 by William Herbert available online at <http://andrewgough.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3311> Herbert calls Bertelius 'John Bertels.'

Herbert's original work is: William Herbert, "Attila, King of the Huns," London, Henry G. Bohn, 1838. This was also reprinted as "Works of the Hon. and Very Rev. William Herbert, Dean of Manchester, etc ... Vol III," London, H.G. Bohn, 1842. pp 425-432. The entire book is available online at <books.google.com/books?id=nogVAAAAYAAJ&pg>
