About Kunjanandan Nair Thunoli

He did his law from the Madras Law College & started practice as a junior of Sri. V.R.Krishna Iyer, a leading criminal lawyer in the Tellicherry District Court. Later when V.R.Krishna Iyer joined the EMS Namboothiripad s Communist Ministry as its law Minister, he handed over his complete office & rented house to him. He shifted his parents, brothers & sisters to Tellicherry. He was having good practice at the Tellicherry Bar. He also started appearing in High Court at Ernakulam. He was a successful lawyer and soon became noted person in the Northern Malabar area.

He was a leftist sympathiser and used to be the Marxist Party' Lawyer for its Criminal Cases. He was in good relations with the Left leaders like A.K.Gopalan, K.P.R. Gopalan, E.M.S. Namboothiripad, Govinda Pillai, Advocate Kunhirama Menon etc. He got all his sisters married . During the second term of Nambuthiripad's ministry, Varkala Radhakrishnan had to quit as the Private secretary to the Chief Minister on alleged charges of Corruption & Nepotism. Namboothiripad wanted Kunhanandan Nair , if he agrees to take that post. Though financially a loss( a paltry sum of Rs.1000/- at that time), he accepted the offer and was with Namboothiripad till the fall of the Government with the split in the Communist Party( 1969). He was offered the ticket to contest from Tellicherry Assembly constituency, but lost the election to N.E.Balram by 500 votes. A section of the Marxist Party workers voted against him . He was holding responsible post in many public institutions in Cannanore District, like President, District Co-operative Bank, Chairman, Cannanore Co-operative Spinning Mill.. All these institutions were running well under his stewardship to be an eye sore to the District Congress Party.

During the Emergency declared by Mrs Indira Gandhi , he was arrested under MISA and detained in the Cannanore Central Jail, with a host of other Opposition Party leaders. During the E.K.Nayanar's ministry , he was appointed as the Chairman of S.I.D.C.O which served full term. After that he concentrated more on the High Court Practice.

He died prematurely during a Prostrate Operation at Calicut. Had he lived more he would have achieved bigger heights.
