August does not have a gravestone; the photo of "Swaner" is from his brother Christian's grave. The cemetery plot map's and the actual placing of some of the stones around August and his son Herbert are a little mixed up. The broken headstone in the left of the photo belongs to Henry Michael, then there is a empty plot between Henry and August. (this is correct according to maps.)To the right of baby Herbert there is suppose to be a empty plot...instead it is the headstones for John Haslam and wife Mary; they are supposed to be on the row over from August. (maybe the stone was placed on the wrong side of the plot, at the foot instead of the head?)

DIED-Swaner in the Tenth Ward, on Sunday, March 18, 1883, of pneumonia after an illness of about a week, August Jorgensen Swaner, aged 33 years, 10 months and 16 days.
Deceased was born in Lind Knud,(Ribe) Denmark, May 2, 1849, emigrated to Utah in 1855, and has been well known in Salt Lake City since that time. He was a natural genius and was among the first who commenced the manufacture of jewelry in Utah. Many persons will remember August Swaner from his genial nature and fertile mind.
Funeral services will take place tomorrow at the Tenth Ward meeting house at 2 o'clock. (obviously the article was ran late as he died on the 18th)
