Alex was the son of Jim and Catherine Lowry Strickland. He married Darkes Dial on Feb. 23, 1907 in Robeson county, North Carolina.

The following was taken from the Dec. 3, 1972 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Alex A. Strickland, 92, of route 3, Maxton, died Friday morning in Southeastern General hospital, Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in New Propsect church by the Revs. C. W. Oxendine, Joe Anderson, T. M. Swett and Ward Clark, Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Dearkis Strickland; four sons, James Strickland of Pembroke, Timothy Strickland of Maxton, Silas Strickland of Rowland, Purcell Strickland of Detroit, Mich.; two daugthers, Mrs. Martha Dial of Rowland, and Mrs. Katherine Wolunski of Maxton; 38 grandchildren; and 42 great grand children.

The body is at Locklear and Sons Funeral Home.
