Information source http://mydunlap.net/William%20Dunlap3.html: He was Dr. Alexander Dunlop, Army Surgeon - Royal Regiment of Dragoons, and Dean of Faculties at The University of Glasgow.

Alexander and his wife Jean ANDERSON were 2nd cousins because Alexander's grandmother Abigail MURE and Jean's grandmother Jean MURE were sisters. Their daughter Sarah married her first cousin James Andrew ANDERSON, son of Jean's sister Janet.

From 'Memorials of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, 1599-1850' (online) - Entered the Faculty of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 1765. Married Jane Anderson, The Field, near St. Rollox; (her sister Janet married Andrew Anderson, Greenock, whose son was No. 436). He resided successively in Argyle Street, corner of Virginia Street, in 1807 in Queen Street, and in 1811 in St. Enoch's Square. He was partner, first with Dr. Moore, shortly before the latter left Glasgow, and afterwards with Mr. John Burns.
