About Alexander Mark H. Gilkes

Born in the UK, educated at Eton and Bristol, Alexander soon abandoned an early career path in financial services where he worked at banks such as UBS and Lazard, inspired to seek more creative endeavors after earlier work experience with the likes of Stanley Kubrick. His deep passion for luxury and creativity soon got hold of him and he left the finance sector to follow his heart in pursuit of an influential role in the luxury sector, where he became one of the youngest executives at LVMH, as a member of the management team of Krug Champagne, one of the group's fastest growing companies.

Deciding to follow an ambition to explore his fascination with the art world, he move to New York and joined Simon de Pury, who recognized in him the ability to bring his sensitive vision and brand-building expertise to his auction house, Phillips de Pury. He was appointed Marketing Director and soon became Simon's auctioneering protégé. Phillips de Pury today belongs to Russia’s leading luxury player, The Mercury Group.

Alexander is the Co-Founder an online art market called www.Paddle8.com. Paddle8 is an online destination geared towards a generation of collectors, artists, and gallerists who view the web as a viable space for learning and accessing contemporary art free of geographical and time constraints. Paddle8 offers collectors access to the world's leading galleries, foundations and art fairs and provides a streamlined acquisition system, furnished with shipping, insurance, installation and payment options. Curated exhibitions offer insider opinions and privileged access to acclaimed artists.

Alexander has lived in Chile, Russia, France, UK and Spain, and now considers New York home.

Gala 2012 will feature amazing live and silent auction items, including wonderful travel packages and superb pieces of jewelry.
