About Alexander Heriott

Apprenticed to his father as a goldsmith on 26 September 1611. Admitted as a burgess and guildesbrother of Edinburgh by right of his father, David Heriot, goldsmith burgess and guildsbrother, on 31 July 1633. He became free of the Goldsmiths' Incorporation on 1 July 1642. Buried in the chancel of St Mary Magdalene Old Fish Street, London.

All things To me and what is owing me and the is duly mine all things as said togeather with my last Will Alix Heriott In the name of God Amen The last Will & Testament of Alexander Heriott of London Jeweler being in perfect remembrance the Lord be praysed for the same doe herein set downe my last Will and Testament in forme and manner ffollowing That is to say First I Commend my Soule into thy hands o Lord my Maker trusting and faithfully beleiveing that through the Merritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer I have and shall have full pardon of all my Sinnes and transgressions and after this life endeth I shall be partie of his everlasting Kingdome with his elect And I doe Commend my body to the Earthe the Mother of us all be buried in the Vault of the Church of St Anne Blackfriars And for those Worldly Goods and Chattells both reall and personall which the Lord hath endowed me and blessed me withal I give and bequeath in manner and forme ffollowing that is to say I give and bequeath to my eldest Sonne James Heriott the summe of Three Hundred and ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the age of twenty and one yeares Item I give and bequeath to my eldest Daughter Ann Heriott Three Hundred ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid at her day of Marriage or the age of Twenty and one yeares Item I give and bequeath to my second daughter Sara Heriott the summe of Three Hundred and ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid unto her at her day of Marriage or the age of twenty and one yeares Item I give and bequeath to my second Sonne Alexander Heriott the summe of Three Hundred and ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid at the full age of Twenty and one yeares Item I give and bequeath to my third Sonne David Heriott the summe of Three Hundred and ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid at the full age of Twenty and one yeares Item I give and bequeath to my third Daughter Mary Heriott the summe of Three Hundred and ffifty pounds lawfull money of England to be paid unto her at her day of Marriage or the full age of Twenty and one yeares And my Will and meaning is give if please God to call any of my children unto his Mercy or then that any of these my Children should dye before the promisses in here mentioned that is on the day of Marriage or full age of Twenty and one yeares that then and in that Case that portion so failing shall fullye totally belong to my eldest Sonne then liveing without any question to be made thereof And furthermore that give it shall please God to call unto his Mercy any of my other Children that then the portion failing shall be equally divided amongst all my Children And my meaning is that gif if shall please God to call any other of my Children that the portion so failing shall still be divided equally amongst all my Children And gif it shall please God to call to his mercy all my Male Children then the portions so failing shall divided unto my Daughters then Liveing equally Item I will and bequeath to my Daughter-in-Law Katherine Alman the summe of ane hundred pounds sterling to be paid unto her at her day of Marriage or the full age of Twenty and one yeares and gif it shall please God to call to his mercy the said Katherine Alman my Daughter-in-Law before the promisses above mentioned That then and in that Case the Legacie is failing shall return to my owne Children equally to be divided amongst them Item I Will and bequeath to my Mother-in-Law Lydia Stalwart the summe of ffifty pounds lawfull Money of England to enjoy the Interest thereof dureing her life time and after her decease to returned to my owne Children equally to be divided amongst them I will and bequeath to my Cousen John Stalwart ffive pounds to be paid forthwith Item I will and bequeath to the poore of the Pish of Blk ffriars Three pounds to be paid forthwith Item in remembrance of a Sibling I give and bequeath unto every one of my Brothers and Sister liveing in Scotland a Ring of fforty shillings Now my Will and Testament is that give it shall please God to call to his mercy all my owne Children That then and in that case my Daughter-in-Law Katherine Alman shall inherit of their portions Two hundred pounds lawfull money of England over and above her Legacie Item I will and bequeath to John Alman my Sonne in Law Tenn pounds lawfull money of England to be paid forthwith Now give it shall happen as aforementioned my owne Children chants be called to his Mercy that the Legacie so performed as aforementioned the Remainder I desire shall be equally divided amongst my Brothers and Sisters liveing in Scotland Sonnes and Daughters of my deceased ffather David Heriott And when it shall please God after my departure I heartily intreat and desire my trusty and Welbeloved ffreinds Mr David Heriott my Brother gentleman and Mr John Lawrence and Mr David Bouckett to be pleased to be my Executors of this my last Will and Testament desireing for the love of God to take some care and paines of these my little ones left ffatherles and motherlesse in which doeing God will be your reward And according to my small means in a token of love I bequeath my Executors a Ring of fforty shillings vallue And give any arise more than I have thought of I desire it may be equally divided amongst my Children not doubting herein but my Executors Will truly and faithfully performe this my last Will and Testament In witnesse whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seale.
