About Alexander Humphreys "Aleck" Todd

Alexander Todd, called “Aleck” by Mary, served in Benjamin Helm’s 1st Kentucky Calvary regiment. He was killed during the Battle of Baton Rouge on August 5, 1863. It is recorded that when Mary Lincoln heard the news of his death she cried, “Oh, little Aleck, why had you too to die!” 

He served in the 1st Kentucky (CSA) Cavalry regiment, and was killed in action at the Battle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
