Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford acceded 1446, died September 1453.

Married Margaret Dunbar and had 3 children, Elizabeth, David 5th Earl born 1440 and Alexander the 7th Earl.

Known as "the Tiger Earl", Alexander was one of the most powerful of the Scottish nobles. For some time he was in arms against King James II as part of the Douglas rebellion. In February of 1452, William Douglas, 8th Earl of Douglas was personally killed at Stirling Castle by James II for refusing to dissolve his league with Alexander. The Tiger Earl was defeated at the Battle of Brechin on May 18, and he submitted to James II in 1452.

Legend has it that he is the imfamous "Earl Beardie" featured in one of the myths of Glamis Castle.

    Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford was the son of David Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Crawford and Marjory Ogilvy. He married Margaret Dunbar, daughter of Sir David Dunbar of Cockburn. He died in September 1453 at Finhaven Castle, Angus, Scotland. He was buried at Grey Friars Church, Dundee, Angus, Scotland.

    Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford also went by the nick-name of 'Earl Beardie'. Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford also went by the nick-name of 'the Tiger'. He held the office of Hereditary Sheriff of Aberdeen between 1446 and 1452. On 13 January 1445/46 at Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, he was the victor of the bloody fray in which his father was fatally wounded. He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Crawford [S., 1398] on 17 January 1445/46. He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to England in 1451. In 1452 he rebelled against the King, after the murder of Douglas by the King. He fought in the Battle of Brechin on 18 May 1452, where he was defeated by the Earl of Huntly, and was declared forfeit. He held the office of Guardian of the Marches in 1453. In April 1453 he was restored.

Alexander Lindsay, 2nd Earl of Crawford (c. 1387 - 1438), was a Scottish magnate. He was the son of David Lindsay, 1st Earl of Crawford and Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of King Robert II and Euphemia de Ross.

He was succeeded in the Earldom of Crawford by David Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Crawford.

He was knighted at the coronation of King James in 1424, and was a hostage for the King, being detained at the Tower of London, York, and Pontefract 1424-27. He was ambassador to England 1430-31.
