About Alexander Webb, I

Given name has also been erroneously reported to be John Alexander.

1st cousin of his wife

Rev Robert Alexander's manuscript says: "Of Dorset, Wales" Knighted by Katherine Parr: (last spouse of Henry VIII: "Katherine, Queen Regent, K.P. in favour of her trusty and well beloved servant, Henry Webbe, gentleman, usher of her privy chamber." written in 1554, in Crotonian collection.

The WEBB family was originally from Dorset, one of the shires in England. For nearly two hundred years, the WEBBs had resided in this place before Sir. Alexander Webb, Jr and his family went to the Americas. The brothers had become quite wealthy. They sold their estate in England for a large sum of money, prior to their departure. This English property was inherited through their ancestor, Sir Henry Alexander Webb. A copy of the letter which Catherine Parr sent her council (Cabinet Members) asking them to grant her beloved friend, Sir Henry Webb, the lands and estates that had been mentioned for him, is still in existence. These lands had been confiscated by the King at the suppression of the monasteries and were located in Dorsetshire, England.

Grace was brother to Robert Arden (Margaret's father). Born about 1512 in Wilnecote, Warwickshire, England.

Sir Alexander Webb

Alexander Webb was born in Bearley on December 24, 1534 and in 1555 married Margaret Arden, a daughter of the wealthy Stratford landowner Thomas Arden. Margaret was the sister of Mary Arden, eventual mother of William Shakespeare. Her mother, Mary Webb Arden, is also the aunt of Alexander Webb. Sir Alexander and Margaret had three children, Robert, Agnes, and first-born Alexander. Alexander is of particular interest, since it was members of his family that left Warwickshire for America.
