About Alfred Wayne Welker
Obituary: Alfred Wayne Welker -- Al was born in Chester, Idaho, to parents James Melvin Welker and Margaretta E. Brown. He had four siblings, brother Warren Dean Welker, sister Wanda Mae Virgin, and two brothers who died at a very young age. Al joined the U.S. Navy on his 21st birthday, served his country for 20 years and retired in 1958. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Al ran a gas station in Southern California and moved to Porterville in 1964. There he started a trucking business, his son later joined him and they ran it together until 1997.
He married the love of his life, Martha Anna Harris on November 15, 1947, in Reno, Nevada. Al and Martha were married for 64 wonderful years and together they had one son, Melvin James Welker. Family was everything to him. He has left behind grandchildren Tori Ford, Cortney Welker, Cameron Welker, Brittany Savage and great-grandchildren, Taylor Welker, Chase Welker, Talan Welker, Brewin Ford, Easton Welker and Brynline Ford. Together he and Martha fostered a home for and raised five Braswell children, Ann, David, Bryon, Timothy, Allan, and Lisa Barton.
Al was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was loved and known by many of it's members and people in the community of Porterville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1164 N. Newcomb Stree, Porterville, CA on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Published in The Porterville Recorder from November 29, 2011 to November 28, 2012.
