Six children according to 1900 USA Census: Amelia, Ellen, Alice, Keturah, Rose, and Robert, so perhaps that is only living children -- meaning John Lukes died before 1900.

Wednesday, December 18, 1901 -- LUKES -- Died, at her home, 808 B Avenue West, at 2:00am, Wednesday, December 18, 1901 of catarrh of the stomach, after an illness of about ten months duration, Mrs. Alice Lukes, aged 58 years and 24 days. Funeral announcement later. The deceased leaves five daughters and a son. The family has the sympathy of a large group of friends.
