Andrew Cameron McQualter II was born in Ballan in 1870, and came to this area in the early 1870's with his father and lived in the Almonds district. Several years later, after working in Queensland and New South Wales he was married in Nyngan in 1894 to Mary Jane Priest, who was born at Violet Town. In the early 1900's he returned to the area, living at St James and Mulwala and finally settling on the property now known as "Nyngan" at Lake Rowan in 1905. He and his wife raised a family of eleven, four boys - Arthur, Jack, Milton, all dec'd, and Myrton; 7 girls - Lillie (Mrs Bob Church, dec'd), Carrie (Mrs Ambler), Elsie, (Mrs Perc Cornford), Annie (Mrs McDonald), Edna (Mrs Dempster, dec'd), Gwen (Mrs Arthur Hargreaves), Gladys (Mrs Stan Hargreaves). With the exception of one daughter, Annie, all of the family lived in surrounding districts.
Andrew did share farming for several years before taking up Road Contracting for neighbouring Shires. After establishig a stone crushing plant, and carting granite from a quarry on Howell's property, he began what was probably his biggest and longest job - construction of the road from Lake Rowan to St James, which was commenced in 1919 and completed two year later. With the introduction of motorised transport he also started a carrying business, combining wheat carting with the transport of gravel for contract jobs. In the late 1930's he retired from contracting and carrying, and his sone continued the business. In 1946 he sold "Nyngan" to his son Jack, and lived with members of his family until his death in 1958 at the age of 88. Jack remained on the property until health reasons forced him to retire and live in Yarrawonga in 1961. "Nyngan" was then bought by a grandson of Andrew, and son of Jack, Andrew John (Jack), who is married to Audrey Holmes, they have a family of two daughters - Yvonne (Mrs Bill Whyte of Yarrawonga, with family of a son and daughter), and Cheryl (Mrs R Leigh, of Melbourne, also with a family of a son and daughter). Jack Jnr (Andrew John) is now the only McQualter descendant living in the district.
