Ann Smith was born 11 October 1819, in Little Wigston, Leicestershire, England, to John Smith and Ann Cook, one of six children. She and Edward Ingram were married 12 August 1838, at the Parish Church of Nuneaton, Warwickshire. They lived in Cosford, Warwickshire, England, and became the parents of two girls and seven boys: John (b. 1838), Mary Ann (1841), Thomas (1844), Joseph (1846), Edward (1849), Elizabeth (1852), George (1854), Charles (1857), and Hyrum (1861). Ann and Edward joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and emigrated to the United States so that they could join a wagon train to Utah. Edward died in New Jersey while working to save money for the journey, however, and Ann and the rest of the family journeyed to Utah two years later. Ann Smith Ingram died on 8 March 1912, at age 92 in Nephi, Utah, of pulmonary hypostasis.
Ann Smith married Edward Ingram on 12 August 1838 at the Parish Church of Nuneaton, Warwick, England. They had nine children:
Ann and Edward were baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 28 May 1848 at Cosford. Deciding to emigrate to Utah, they sent several of the children first, to work and send money for the later voyage of the rest of the family. First to go were John (age 24) and his wife Harriett Hall, Mary (21), Thomas (18), Joseph (16), and George (8) on the ship John J Boyd, which left Liverpool on 23 April 1862. Four years later, Ann (48), Edward (55), Edward Jr., Charles, and Hyrum sailed on the Arkwright, which left Liverpool on 30 May 1866, and arrived in New York City on 6 July. Edward found work in Newark but died in a construction accident on 2 October 1866. Ann, Edward, Jr., Charles, and Hyrum traveled to Utah two years later in the John Gillespie Company, which left Benton, Wyoming, on 24 August 1868. Thomas had come out from Utah to meet them at the Missouri River. Thomas found work with the railroad when the Company reached Echo Canyon and Ann and the four sons lived there for a time.
Ann arrived in Nephi 1869. Later in life she lived alone in a two-room adobe house on one acre of land, up until one week of her death. A great-granddaughter wrote, "She was just a little short lady and used to climb on a chair and get candy peppermints out of the cupboard for us. I remember the beautiful braided rugs she used to make."
She died on 8 March 1912, at age 92 in Nephi, Utah, where there is a very attractive monument to her in Vine Bluff Cemetery. Her death certificate reports cause of death as pulmonary hypostasis. Her gravestone inscription reads, "Sacred to the Memory of Ann Ingram. Born in Pickelton, Leicestershire, Eng. OCT. 11, 1819 Died MAR. 8, 1912. A precious one from us has gone. She was the sunshine of our home."
