A York, Pa. death and burial record says "Anna Katherin Conrad born 1 December 1722 in EMershausen from the Osinger Land. Parents Martin and Anna Catharina Schmidt" Anna Catherin (Schmidt) was married #1 to Valentine Alt who came to Pennsylvania in 1738 on the ship Davy. He was a Palatine. Anna Catherine died 8 June 1759 York county, Pa. Where was Emmerhausen from the Osinger Land? I would like to find the birth record of Anna Catherine. R.N. St. Charles, Mo. A: - From Ernest Thode. German American specialist Marietta, Oh. "Emershausn" is Emmershauen. There probably was a straight line above the "m" in orginal script, which has the effect of doubling the letter. This is a kind of short hand used for the letters "m" and "n". The postal code is W-6391 Emmershaun. Is had a population of 333 in 1925; 293 in 1881. It had an inron foundry. Is is now incorporated into a new community called Weilrod, located about 24 km (15 miles) northwest of Frankfurt am Main. As for the "Osinger Land" that is a misreading for Usinger Land, the territory right around W-390 Usingen. This rules out other places with similar spellings such as W-5241 Emmerzhausen. Almost any German place name can become an adjextive by the addition of "er" as in Hamburger (from Hamburg or of Hamburg")...where the place ends in "ingen" (meaning settlement, the adjective and substantive becomes "inger". The church for Emmerhausen was probably Rod and de Weil. I don't believe this on LDS microfilm. The adress is: Evangelisches Pfarramt Rod an de Weil AM Kirchberg 3 W-631 Weilrod Bundesrepublic Deutschland Federal Republic of Germany. Incidently if your Valentine Alt was the one from MOntgomery then York county Pa. who died in 1754 then he came from W-6691 Soettern near Nohfelden (then in Birkenfield in 1738)."
