My grandmother, Mildred Wilson Noce, referred to her as "Aunt Josie." Her passion was landscape painting.
Josepha Whitney was a prolific artist; her many watercolors, charcoals, pencils, and oils of scenery around the world grace the homes of most of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!
I knew Aunt Josie as a young girl--she was my mother's favorite aunt, as her aunt Anita was older and busy and lived at a distance. Aunt Josie married my Grandpa Cavenaugh when they were both 80, and were very happy for two years until his death. She had been a widow for 40 or so years, and he had been a widower for 7-8 years. She painted beautiful water colors and we lived near her in Winter Park,Florida during WWII.
