About Armistead Younger

Introduction by Freda Massey to "Armstead Younger (1811-1883) Descendants in Stone County, Arkansas compiled by the Stone County Historical Society 1997 - One of the more prominent families in Stone County , Arkansas , is the Younger family. Armistead and his brother William settled by 1853 in Franklin township , which at that time was part of Independence County , Arkansas , but became part of Stone County in 1873. On July 23 ,1853 , Armistead was appointed postmaster of the new post office named Buckhorn. This said to be named for the Younger store which had a large rack of deer horns over the door. The post office remained in the Younger family until 1883 when it was changed to St. James. Armistead and his sons where elected Justices of the Peace several times.
