He was the son of William and Mary (Cox) Bowers. He married Sarah Elizabeth Brown on March 30, 1843 in Elbert County, Georgia. Their children were: John D., Sarah Frances Elizabeth, William E., Mary E., Charles M., Sanford Gordon, Tehoah J. and Asa E. Bowers.
He was a Confederate soldier and died in the CSA Hospital in Farmville, Virginia.
