When first arriving in America, Barbato and Donata came through St.
Louis, Missouri USA. Somewhere between 1880 and 1884 they came to Conway
County, Arkansas USA and settled in the community of Catholic Point,
Center Ridge, Conway, Arkansas USA.
Barbato had a brother here as well; his name was Frank.
Barbato and Donata never mastered the English language and could only
speak a little broken English.
They were well known and loved throughout the community. Everyone knew
Barbato as "Uncle B".
Like the early settlers, they were farmers, with crops of corn and some
cotton. Growing all that they ate, canning and drying to preserve for the
winter. They also grew animals for their use, such as the milk, meat to
cure. and ,making sausage.
Donata was like all the other wives of the community, sewing and quilting
to keep her family in clothes and warm in the winter.
Barbato and Donata were very active in their community and in the church.
Their faith was the center of their lives and what carried them through
the lean years and what always kept them happy and at peace in their
lives.
