The voyage was taken upon the permission of Sir Walter Raleigh and supported by a company of investors in England. Bartholomew traveled on the Concord from Falmouth, England. There were 32 people on the ship of which 8 were mariners. He and his men built the first dwelling house in Mass. He named the cape after all the Cod fish they caught while there. Some of the passengers were to remain, but they all returned to England.
