Born in Clarendon he worked for his father before his service in the Civil War, returning to Orleans County, after his discharge he lived in Clarendon and Byron area where he was a successful farmer. After his retirement he removed to Holly where he died, a Civil War Pensioner. His second wife was a daughter of Michael and Mahitebel Jennison Foster. His children were all of his first marriage and were born at Clarendon. He Enlisted 31 Jul 1862 at Lockport, NY in the 8th NY Reg. Comp. K, and dis. 5 Jun 1865.

Charles married (1) Evaline Glidden in 1865 in Clarendon, NY. Evaline was born about 1843. She died on 5 Oct 1890.
